Athena Grant is heading out to sea… again.

Two (of many) Ryan Murphy TV worlds are set to collide on March 20 with a 9-1-1 and Doctor Odyssey crossover episode. Angela Bassett's tough L.A. cop is set to join Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson), Nurse Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo), Nurse Tristan Silva (Sean Teale), and Captain Robert Massey (Don Johnson) aboard the Odyssey for a risky adventure.

"It’s Casino Week aboard The Odyssey, and unexpected guest Athena Grant suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault," reads the official logline. "Enlisting Max’s help, Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand."

As fans no doubt remember, this won't be Athana's first time aboard a cruise ship: the three-part season 7 premiere of 9-1-1 saw her survive a disastrous honeymoon cruise, where the ship was taken over and eventually sunk, leading to a Titanic-esque traumatic event with her husband, Bobby (Peter Krause). 

Luckily, if disaster strikes twice, the Odyssey's small but mighty medical team will have Athena's back.

Doctor Odyssey, which launched in September, isn't so different from the procedural drama of 9-1-1. Instead of first responders dealing with the entirety of Los Angeles, the series follows the medical crew of a luxury crew ship as they navigate the unique medical crises that arise, miles from shore.

Unfortunately for fans of both shows, the crossover doesn't sound like an all-hands-on-deck situation, and the 118 won't be joining Athena for this particular outing — especially without a certain someone to helicopter them in. But on the bright side, the door is now wide open for other 9-1-1 stars to board the Odyssey (which means there is still hope that Buck and Tristan will come face-to-face).

The Murphy-verse is no stranger to a crossover event: several characters across the American Horror Story anthology series popped up in later seasons — including Bassett's own Marie Laveau, who debuted in AHS: Coven and later reappeared in 2018's Apocalypse.

9-1-1 previously left L.A. for a southern detour, crossing over with the world of the Austin-set spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. The show later went beyond the bounds of Murphy's creations with the 118 paying a visit to The Bachelor mansion.

Now, the 9-1-1 universe is expanding in more ways than one. In addition to the Doctor Odyssey crossover, ABC is taking the franchise to Music City for 9-1-1: Nashville. Hailing from Murphy, Tim Minear, and Rashad Raisani, news of the latest spinoff series arrives just on the heels of 9-1-1: Lone Star concluding on Fox.

Meanwhile, the flagship series will continue season 8 with a midseason premiere on March 6.
